How to recall/unsend a text/SMS in your android smartphone easily ?

Did you just send an awful, idiotic text to your boss? Did you get really drunk and texted your ex really
late at night?

If you did and wondering how to undo your SMS/text, in other words you need to unsend an SMS as quickly as possible. It’s not that easy to do that on any mobile device, but if you are an Android user then luck is in your side, one new app aims to make unsending an SMS as easy as possible.Yes, no need to plan about stealing the phone.
That app you ask is TigerText Secure Messenger, which can be used as a replacement for SMS/MMS messenger on any Android device. Above all, unlike other devices even if your recipient is not using this app this function will still work.
Here are the steps on How to make use of the unsend functionality in Android devices?

Step 1) Install TigerText app from here and set this this app as default.
Step 2) Type out your text messages using the this app
Step 3) Send the message, then tap and hold it
Step 4) Tap Recall to delete the text message from the recipient’s device.
NOTE--This function will only work if the recipient has not yet opened the message.
Step 5) To make sure that the Recall(*Unsend) function worked, check the green icon next to your message. This icon indicates that a message was successfully sent. If you successfully recalled(^unsend) that message, that green icon will not be there.
Really, recalling a text message doesn't get that much easier . You can switch your default SMS/MMS apps around from the in-app menu of the SMS app of your choice any time.

If you already know any such app do let us know and we will surely write about it in our next post.

Windows 9 : What to expect ??

Microsoft is expected to announce the Windows 9 beta as a “Developer Preview” in an event on 30th September outlined as “what’s next for Windows and the enterprise” for which Microsoft has already sent out invitations.

We all are well aware of the fact that Windows 8 has not been a universal success for Microsoft.

The firm’s Chinese division posted an image on Weibo saying “Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left will make a come back”, though it was quickly removed.

We expect Windows 9 to be a universal platform that will launch in PCs, laptops, tablets and phones in April 2015 but Microsoft is likely to show it- to some extent on 30th September 2014. Microsoft is expected to show off Windows 9 technical preview and may be the beta version will be announced.

A leaked document obtained by Myce.com, has a section detailing ‘update items’ which includes changes to the Metro UI, OneDrive, Windows Defender. There’s also a mention of Cortana integration like in the Windows Phone, this is the most talk about feature that may find it’s way in Windows 9 too.

Many of the features which Windows 9 may include have already been available including the return of the Start Menu, information regarding the Start Menu is that it combines the old style Windows 7 style with windows 8 Starts Screen and will be resizable. The Charms bar would be gone from Windows 9. The Task View will be used to switch between apps and is opened via button on the taskbar. The File Explorer will open with a new Home as the default, showing things like favourite folders, recent folders and files.

We expect that Windows 9 will be available as 64-bit only. A lot depends on what OEM’s want to build and what Intel gives them with which to build. One thing Microsoft has to do is to allow Windows Phone and Windows RT apps to run on both, WP as well as on Windows. Users may also be able to pin Metro apps to the taskbar. Also expect to see Kinect-based 3D gesture to be enabled for laptops with 3D cameras, which provide the ability to control your computer with gestures.

So, expect more from Microsoft.
We will soon come to know what all will be there in the new Windows.

Flagship phone from Motorola : The Moto X (2nd Gen)

After the arrival of Moto G 2nd Gen, we all were eager to know whether Motorola will launch 2nd Generation of its flagship model Moto X or not.

And yes! Here we are with the all new Moto X 2nd Gen.

The new Moto X runs purely on latest Android operating system 4.4.4 kitkat so that you have the unique pure Android experience. People are talking about Moto X design and saying great things. Jamie Lendino, PC  MAG said “ It is really gorgeous, the aluminium frame is nicely tapered and looks slick with now trademarked curved back panel”. You can make your Moto X unique and stand out in the public by choosing from thousands of unique metal accents, colourful hues, real woods and many more back panels designs available.

Lets see some of the Moto X specifications :

Operating System : Android 4.4.4 kitkat

Processor : 2.5GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with quad-core CPU, Adreno 330 @ 578 MHz GPU, Natural language processor, Contextual Computing Processor.

Memory : 2GB RAM , 16GB & 32 GB

Dimensions : Weight 144g, Height 5.54 inches, Width 2.85 inches

Now being real now, the best feature that Moto X boast is its ability to quietly listen to your voice commands even when the screen is off. You can define your own command phrase instead of just “Ok Google” like “Hey Moto, you there” or something like “Moto, I need you now”  J. From there you can ask the Moto X to set alarms for you, set reminders and also set statuses to Facebook or Whatsapp, in addition to searching Google with your voice.

Now quickly wrapping it up we can say that Motorola has learned from its mistakes in the past but this year’s Moto X still isn’t perfect as the camera is occasionally just frustrating and it’s battery life is purely average compared to rivals but yes it’s the closest that Motorola has come in a very long time.

Moto X is priced Rs. 31,999 on flipkart.com

What are you thoughts on latest Moto X (2nd Generation)?

Google Now vs. Cortana vs. Siri: Ultimate Showdown

Smartphones are becoming more smarter day by day, one such example is the constantly improving  personal voice assistant or virtual assistant.

Till now Android's Google Now and Apple's Siri were pretty much dominating the virtual assistant game, but Microsoft is catching up with Cortana on Windows Phone 8.1 which is in Beta stage as of now. Cortana is named after the artificial intelligence system in Microsoft's Halo game series.

Apple's Siri which had a lot of issues and felt sort of inferior to Google Now has been improved a lot in the new iOS 8 and covers many of it's drawbacks from the previous version. Google Now with all new features seems more better than ever.

Apple's Siri is more fun to use mainly because of it's comeback answers and recommendations. Whereas Google Now almost nails it when it comes to providing information even before you ask, to an extent Google Now clearly does the job of a personal assistant better.

Cortana seems like it has inherited the elements of both Siri and Google now. Though this does not means that Cortana is better than the two. Despite some distinguishing features like identifying the song's name which is absent in both Siri and Google Now, it still feels inferior to its counterparts when it comes to providing needed information and taking commands.
Although we should not forget that its still in beta stage and is constantly improving and being upgraded.

In a series of videos, Phonebuff tested each virtual assistant individually and recorded their response on a set of 50 commands.
Take a look at the videos and find out how each of them responds to these commands.

The Ultimate Flagship Smartphone War : Lumia 930, iPhone 6 & Nexus 5

I know all these are great smartphones and every single person in this world would love to have one of them or all of them ;)

It features some of the Microsoft’s latest hardware and latest version of the Windows Phone OS. It also features the Lumia Cyan firmware, which enables some advanced features like Miracast, Living images, Bluetooth 4.0 and more.

Specifications : Lumia 930 boast Windows Phone 8.1 and there is a 2Ghz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood. A 5-inch beautiful AMOLED 1080p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which produces stunning graphics. For playing games without any lag it is equipped with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (though no micro SD support), a 20MP PureView rear Camera with ZEISS optics and dual LED flash which produces great low light images adn . Lumia 930 also supports wireless charging and is backed up by 2420 mAh battery.

Now heading to the Apple’s section. Apple is ready with its iPhone 6. Apple says “iPhone 6 isn’t simply bigger, it’s better in every way”.

Specifications : The iPhone 6 features the latest iOS 8 and have metal surface that seamlessly meets the new Retina HD display. It has a 4.7-inch screen with crispy display. Built on 64-bit desktop-class architecture the new A8 chip delivers more power. The M8 motion coprocessor efficiently gathers data from advanced sensors and new barometer and with increased battery life, iPhone 6 let’s you do more and for longer than ever. The storage capacity have been bumped up to 128 GB at the top end, 1 GB RAM, 8 MP camera with better autofocus and 1.2 MP front camera with face detection and improved LTE and Wi-Fi speed.

Now comes into picture the Google Nexus 5.  The Nexus 5 does everything right for a very reasonable price. It caught everyone’s fancy from the time it was first leaked in a video.

Specification : The Nexus 5 sports a very understated look and there’s nothing like striking in the phone’s design. Despite a 4.95-inch screen(full HD display)  you won’t face any issue operating it with one hand. The soft touch matte finish makes Nexus 5 pleasant to hold. It was the first smartphone to ship with Android kitkat. It boasts 8 MP main camera with LED flash and a 1.3MP front facing camera, 16/32 GB of internal storage. Under the hood is Quad-core 2.3 Ghz krait 400 processor with 2 GB RAM.

Its really a tough task to tell which smartphone is the best. Considering the specifications, all the 3 phones boast latest OS, good processors and battery life. The off contract version of the iPhone 6 price is set at $650, Microsoft’s Lumia 930 is priced at $590 while Google’s Nexus is priced around $349.

According to me, Nexus 5 looks a better option considering the specifications and the number of apps available on Google PlayStore and its price.

What are your thoughts? Which smartphone you think is the best among these 3. Do share your views in the comments below.

Windows Phone doesn’t suffer from an app gap in India : Microsoft

Joseph Landes, General Manager (Developer and Platform Evangelism) at Microsoft India, has stated in an interview with The Hindu that there is a “zero app gap in Windows Phone versus competition”.

He mentioned that the company is not far behind in the apps development space.

“We are not far behind. Of course there are certain apps like Candy Crush which is not available on the Windows Phone Store but if you look at the apps created by Indian companies or top brands, we have zero app gap versus competition”

Landes focused on security, that though the Windows Store does not feature as many app as Android or iOS but what differentiate Windows Store from its competitor is that its apps are malware free.

He also mentioned that another misconception with Windows Phone has to do with number of apps. Microsoft currently have 300,000 apps available for download. There is no doubt that the Google Play Store and the iOS have more apps but the question is how many apps do you really need? How many apps that perform the same task do you really need?

About the state of app ecosystem in India, Landes mentioned that Microsoft has invested heavily in the start-up ecosystem in the country with recent partnership with Reliance Industries’ GenNext ventures that will see the introduction of innovation hubs.

We surely will like to see many many great innovation come out of these initiatives in terms of building a great app in the times to come.

According to Microsoft, several Indian companies and retailers have embraced the Windows Phone platform by launching native app. As the platform gains momentum in the country more and more organizations will start offering dedicated clients to Windows Phone.

So readers, Do you think that Windows Phone Store suffers from an app gap in India? What crucial apps are still missing from the platform? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Planning to buy a new smartphone? Lets check out Moto G (2nd Generation) .

The season of launch of cheap, quality made, affordable phones isn't over yet.
And here comes another attention grabber MOTO G 2nd EDITION,launching exclusively tonight on flipkart .
After a grand success of MOTO G,this one is it's successor.

Let's take a quick look at it's key specification:

Key Features of Moto G

  • Android v4.4.4 (KitKat) OS
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Expandable Upto 32GB
  • 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Quad Core Processor
  • 8 MP Primary Camera and 2 MP Secondary Camera
  • Dual SIM (GSM + GSM)
  • 5-inch HD Screen

Motorola has made sure that the successor to it's flagship phone MOTO G phone is as good as the original one.Motorola has upgraded some of the features of the smartphone.
Here the comparison between the old MOTO G and new one.

DESIGN:

The new version of MOTO G runs on Android kitkat v4.4.4,with a guaranteed update of  newer version. The older version did came with 4.4.2 but after that MOTOROLA did provide the users with the update of KITKAT v4.4.4

DISPLAY:

The newer version comes with a bigger screen of 5.00 inch as compared to it's older version of 4.50 inch.
But the screen resolution is still limited to  720 * 1280 pixels like the previous version so the screen pixel density has decreased from 329 ppi to 294 ppi. Thus decreasing the image quality, but that won't make a much bigger difference as the new pixel density is also good.

CAMERA:

The newer version comes with a 8 MP primary camera which is better than the older version of 5 MP.Also the secondary camera resolution has increased from 1.3 MP to 2.0 MP.

HARDWARE:

This point disappoints us.The company hasn't upgraded the hardware of the phone. It still runs on the same hardware platform like it's predecessor .
It comes with a QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON QUADCORE PROCESSOR and 1 GB reason.
however,it comes with 16 GB of inbuilt memory as compared to 8 GB of inbuilt memory.
And the major difference is that the company has now added the feature of expandable memory upto 64 GB which wasn't present before,so you need not worry for lack of space on your device.
Battery is still of 2070 mAh in both the versions, which according to our usage is less but still the company claims that it's enough for one day usage.

PRICE:

This is the most important factor when it comes for buying a new smartphone.MOTOROLA has launched the MOTO G GEN2 at Rs.12,999.

 FINAL VERDICT:

The company tried to capture the economy market but it fails to keep the expectations we had with the newer version. As in this price range we have better build phones with more spectacular features.
So,you can surely consider the newer MOTO G as an option if you are planning to buy a new smartphone. But you will have to spend some extra bucks for the thing which is available at a much less price if you do consider other companies.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge: Biggest surprise of IFA 2014

Samsung is making it very clear that they are not going for simple looking and straight forward smartphones only. They have been very active recently in innovating their smart devices, be it smartphones or smart watches, this can be seen in their newly launched smartphone Galaxy Note Edge.

Samsung has come up with a unique bending screen which takes inspiration from the company's bendable OLED concept. This not only gives Samsung Galaxy Edge a unique look, but according to Samsung this part of the screen could change the way we interact with our smartphone.

The screen curves on the right side of the smartphone keeping the rest of the screen flat. The curved has the functionality to show notifications and updates from apps, messages, can be used for showing time and weather updates and you can also open up varies apps using it.

Samsung is trying to utilise this space as much as possible by teaming up with various devs and software makers to increase functionality of the curved screen and not just make it a "show off" thing.

Most of the other features are same as that of Galaxy Note 4, which is launched along with it.

The phone comes with a 16 MP of rear camera and 3.7 MP on the front side, and has 5.6" QHD display and S Pen functionality.

Samsung has not yet revealed the launch date and price of the phone, but it is expected to be launched at the end of the year and will be priced a bit higher than Note 4. However, only time will tell whether Galaxy Note Edge gives Samsung an "Edge" over the competition or not.
