Independent India's first stamp finds its way in Friday's Google doodle on the occasion of India's Independence Day. India is celebrating its 68th Independence Day on 15 August 2014.

The first stamp of independent India was issued on November 21 st 1947. Independent India's first stamp depicts the national flag flying high in the clouds, with the slogan Jai Hind (Long Live India) . The stamp had a blue background and was valued at three and one-half annas (around 0.20 India rupees).

India has a long and proud history of postal stamps that were developed for sole purpose of military and governmental communications.
